About Our Guatemala Monte Rosa — Washed Single Origin
This washed lot from the Nueva Granada farm in San Marcos, Guatemala is grown at 1000–1600 Masl between the Tajumulco and Tacana volcanoes. Owner Dieter Nottebohm runs the farm with a strong commitment to sustainability: over 60 hectares are protected as wild woodland, natural spring water powers the wet mill, and the farm produces upwards of 40 tons of compost annually from coffee pulp and Macadamia skins. Health workers are employed to provide education, first aid and vaccination programmes for the farming community.
San Marcos, Guatemala — Grown in the Shadow of Two Volcanoes
San Marcos is one of Guatemala's most dramatic coffee-growing regions, nestled in the western highlands between the Tajumulco and Tacana volcanoes. The region's high altitude, fertile volcanic soils and distinct wet and dry seasons create ideal conditions for complex, nuanced coffees.
Monte Rosa comes from the Nueva Granada farm, owned by Dieter Nottebohm. The estate is run with a strong commitment to environmental sustainability — over 60 hectares of land are protected as wild woodland to support local biodiversity, including native flora like Macadamia trees and the wildlife they shelter. Natural spring water powers the wet mill, and the farm produces upwards of 40 tons of compost each year from coffee pulp and Macadamia skins. Nueva Granada also employs health workers to deliver education, first aid and vaccination programmes for farmers and their families.
Monte Rosa is made from Cattura and Catuai varietals — chosen for their resilience to La Roya (coffee leaf rust), which can devastate farms at this altitude. The cherries are processed using the washed method, producing the clean, bright cup that San Marcos is known for.
