About Our Burundi Ngozi — Natural Single Origin
A naturally dried single origin from Ngozi, Burundi, grown by 60 smallholder families across three cooperatives supported by the Cafex project. This Belgian-Burundian collaboration works with the Mparamirundi, Nyanza Tuburi and Gitemezi cooperatives at 1650-2000 MASL, producing exceptional Bourbon varietals with notes of blackcurrants, dry green apple acidity and a rounded body.
Ngozi, Burundi — Fruit-Forward Natural from the Butanyerea Highlands
Ngozi Province sits in the highlands of northern Burundi, part of the Butanyerea region. At altitudes between 1650 and 2000 metres above sea level, the volcanic soils and cool temperatures create ideal conditions for producing fruit-forward, complex coffees that showcase the best of East African natural processing.
The Cafex project is a Belgian-Burundian partnership that supports 60 smallholder farming families organised into three cooperatives: Mparamirundi, Nyanza Tuburi and Gitemezi. Located in Shikankoni, the project takes a direct trade approach — ensuring farmers receive fair prices while maintaining strict quality standards throughout the harvest and processing stages.
The coffee is made from Bourbon varietals and processed using the natural dried method, where whole cherries are laid out on raised drying beds in the sun. This preserves the intense fruit sugars and aromatics of the cherry, resulting in the distinctive blackcurrant notes, dry green apple acidity and rounded body that define this lot.
