The Coffee Factory: 17 Years of Craft, Curiosity, and Conscious Roasting

Specialty coffee should be approachable, not exclusive. Our journey began 17 years ago with a cafe in Axminster. Back then, we were introduces Devon to the "Flat White" before most people knew what it was. Today, based at Seaton Junction on the Jurassic Coast, our family-run roastery continues that mission: making world-class coffee accessible to everyone.

Pioneers of the UK Subscription (Since 2010)

We were one of the first roasters in the UK to offer coffee subscriptions, launching back in 2010. We even built our own web app to ensure the experience was as flexible as our roast. Our goal was simple: use the existing postal network to deliver fresh coffee. By leveraging the postman already visiting your door, we've found the most carbon-efficient way to get beans from our roastery to your kitchen.

Manual Craft with Dorothy & Penny

In an era of automation, we choose the "hard way." We roast every batch manually on Dorothy and Penny—our original 1960s cast-iron Probat roasters. The heavy thermal mass of these vintage machines allows us to "feel" the roast, coaxing out chocolatey, fruit-forward notes that modern steel machines often miss.

Honest Sustainability: Choosing Recyclable Over Compostable

Our commitment to the planet is driven by science, not slogans. While we previously used compostable packaging, we transitioned to high-quality recyclable materials that can be dropped off at over 4,000 UK supermarkets. Why? Because the UK's current food waste systems (Anaerobic Digestion) often treat compostable bags as contaminants, sending them to landfills. Furthermore, recyclable plastic provides a superior oxygen barrier, ensuring your coffee stays at peak freshness for longer.

The Solar Horizon

We aren't stopping there. As we look to the future, our goal is a transition to solar-powered electric roasting and a fully carbon-neutral supply chain. We want to prove you can honour manual craft while leading the way in 21st-century sustainability.

Whether you're a home enthusiast or a local cafe owner, welcome to the factory. Let's brew something better together.
