About Our India Bababudangiri — Washed Single Origin

A washed single origin from the Bababudangiri mountain range in Chikamagalur, Karnataka. Sourced through DR. Wakefield and Indian exporter Allanasons, this coffee is handpicked, wet processed, sun-dried on raised beds and dry milled in Hassan. Grown at 1000-1620 MASL from Chandagiri and S.795 varietals, delivering notes of baking chocolate, spice and a smooth body.

A large quantity of dark red dried berries or spices spread out on white fabric mats in an outdoor processing facility under a clear blue sky.

Chikamagalur, Karnataka — Washed Single Origin from India's Legendary Coffee Hills

The Bababudangiri mountain range in Karnataka's Chikamagalur district is legendary as the birthplace of Indian coffee, where the saint Baba Budan is said to have brought the first coffee seeds from Yemen in the 17th century. At 1000-1620 metres above sea level, the slopes provide ideal growing conditions — cool nights, rich red soils and consistent rainfall that produce coffees of exceptional clarity and depth.

This lot is sourced through DR. Wakefield and processed by Indian exporter Allanasons. The coffee is handpicked from smallholder farms across the Bababudangiri range, wet processed to remove the fruit skin, sun-dried on raised beds and dry milled in Hassan before export.

Grown from Chandagiri and S.795 varietals — both well-suited to Indian growing conditions — the washed process brings clarity and refinement to the cup. The result is a smooth, rounded coffee with notes of baking chocolate and warm spice, characteristic of the best single origins from Karnataka.
