A Fruity, Bright Seasonal Blend

Big Red is updated every few months with new African coffees, selected for their zingy acidity and stone fruit character. These are blended with a Brazilian pulped natural base that adds body, sweetness and all-day drinkability. Roasted to a medium light level, Big Red brings out the natural fruit sugars without bitterness — a blend that delivers something different each season while always staying true to its bright, accessible character.

Africa Meets Brazil — Seasonal & Always Changing

Big Red is a blend that moves with the seasons. The African component — sourced from rotating origins across Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda and beyond — is what gives Big Red its signature brightness. African coffees grown at high altitude develop intense fruit-forward flavour compounds: apricot, lime, tangerine and sweet spice, the notes you'll find in every iteration of the blend.

The Brazilian base is the constant. Pulped natural coffees from Brazil's established growing regions contribute the rounded body and caramel sweetness that balances the African acidity and makes Big Red approachable across all brew methods.

By rotating the African component seasonally, we can showcase the best of what's available at the cupping table each quarter — which means every bag of Big Red is a little different, and always worth trying.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Big Red suitable for someone new to African coffees?

Yes. The blend is designed as an accessible introduction to African coffee flavours. The Brazilian base softens the acidity and adds body, making it less intense than a pure African single origin.

Does medium light roast mean it will taste sour or thin?

Not in this blend. The Brazilian pulped natural adds sweetness and body that balance the brighter acidity from the African coffees. The result is bright but not sharp.

What grind setting should I use for espresso?

Start with a medium-fine grind. Medium light roasts are denser than darker roasts, so you may need to grind slightly finer than you would for a dark roast espresso blend.

How often does the African component change?

Approximately every few months, aligned with seasonal coffee harvests from Africa. The cup notes on the product listing reflect the current rotation.
