Can You Try a Coffee Subscription Before You Commit? Here's What to Know
Share
Searching for a free coffee trial or a way to try a coffee subscription before fully committing? You're not alone. Most people want to know the coffee is actually good before they sign up for monthly deliveries.
Here's what you need to know about trialling a coffee subscription in the UK — and why the best way to try ours costs less than a round of drinks.
Why Most "Free Coffee Trials" Don't Actually Exist
Unlike some subscription services, genuine free trials for specialty coffee aren't common. Coffee has a cost — the green beans, the roasting energy, the packaging, the postage. A roastery offering free coffee indefinitely is either losing money or cutting corners somewhere.
What does exist — and what we think is a better deal anyway — is a subscription with no long-term commitment and a genuinely low entry price.
How to Try a Coffee Subscription with Zero Risk
Our Roasters Club subscription starts from £10 for a 250g bag of freshly roasted specialty coffee. There's no minimum term, no lock-in, and no cancellation fee. Here's what that means in practice:
- Start with one delivery — your first bag arrives freshly roasted. If you love it, your next delivery goes out automatically.
- Pause or skip any time — log into your account and pause, delay, or skip upcoming deliveries without having to call anyone or write an email.
- Cancel whenever you like — no cancellation windows, no penalty. Cancel from your account in under a minute.
- Change everything — your coffee, your grind, your bag size, your frequency. You're not locked into anything you chose on day one.
What Makes a Good Coffee Subscription Worth Trialling
Before you commit to any subscription — ours included — here are the things worth checking:
Roast date matters. Coffee is at its best 3–14 days after roasting. A subscription that sends coffee roasted weeks earlier isn't a subscription, it's just a slow online shop. Our orders go out within hours of roasting from our Devon roastery.
Flexibility should be real. Check that you can actually pause, skip, and cancel without jumping through hoops. We use Loop for subscription management — any change takes less than a minute from your customer account.
You should be able to change your coffee. Tastes change. What you ordered in January might not be what you want in June. Our subscribers can switch blend, grind size, or bag size at any time.
Our Recommendation: Start Small
If you're unsure, start with a 250g bag on a monthly frequency. That's roughly one bag every four weeks — enough to properly evaluate the coffee without commitment. If it's not for you, cancel. If it's exactly what you were looking for, you can increase frequency or bag size whenever you're ready.

Already Have a Coffee Subscription Elsewhere?
If you're switching from another subscription, here's what's worth comparing: the roast-to-ship time (how fresh is the coffee when it arrives?), the range of coffees available, and the price per gram compared with what you'd pay buying the same coffee retail.
We're a small Devon roastery that's been going since 2009. We roast daily, ship fast, and have won Great Taste Awards, Taste of the West Gold, and Food Drink Devon Awards. Our subscribers stay because the coffee is genuinely good — not because we make it hard to leave.
