About Our Uganda Bujuku Valley — Natural Single Origin

Situated at the foot of the Rwenzori mountains just north of Lake George, this natural lot comes from smallholder farms in the Kasese region. The region is ideally situated for the production of specialty arabica cherries, with high altitude, fertile soil and plentiful rainfall. The lack of infrastructure, and the political upheaval in Uganda over the past 40 years has meant that this region has struggled to reach its full potential, but now specialty coffee producers are engaging with smallholders to create an equitable coffee sector in the region. This DRUGAR lot, or Dried Ugandan Arabica, is double hand-picked, meaning cherries are sorted twice by hand at drying tables to create a premium, specialty grade cup. The selected cherries are then dried on the drying tables until optimum moisture levels are reached.

Rwenzori Mountains, Uganda — Where Political History Meets Specialty Potential

The Rwenzori Mountain range in western Uganda rises dramatically from the floor of the Great Rift Valley, reaching some of the highest peaks in Africa. Sitting just north of Lake George in the Kasese region, the slopes here benefit from rich volcanic soils, abundant rainfall and altitudes climbing from 1,200 to 2,000 metres above sea level — near-perfect conditions for specialty arabica production.

Despite its extraordinary growing conditions, the Kasese region has long struggled to reach its potential. Decades of political upheaval and a lack of infrastructure isolated many smallholder farmers from the specialty coffee market. That is changing. Today, dedicated specialty producers are working directly with local farmers to build an equitable supply chain, ensuring fair prices and investing in quality at every stage of production.

Bujuku Valley is a DRUGAR lot — Dried Ugandan Arabica — made from SL14 and SL28 varietals. The cherries are double hand-picked, sorted twice at the drying tables to select only premium, specialty-grade fruit, before being dried on raised beds until optimum moisture levels are reached. The result is a clean, naturally processed cup with real character.
