This lot comes from Kokowagayu; the first and only women managed cooperative in Sumatra.
Established in 2014, in Aceh, Northern Sumatra, Kokowagayo has been a trailblazer in providing leadership, educational and financial opportunities for female farmers in Sumatra. Beyond Coffee, members diversify their livelihoods by cultivating vegetables and fruits like avacados and oranges, as well as livestock rearing and compost production, providing greater financial stability. This lot utilises the Wet Hulled process; where coffee cherries are pulped and partially dried with the mucilage layer still on before they reach a moisture content of 30-50%. They are then hulled whilst still wet to accelerate drying. The Wet Hulled process is primarily used in Indonesia, where the damp and humid environment impedes traditional drying methods.
