Papua New Guinea Waghi Valley

This grade A washed lot comes from smallholder farms in the Waghi Valley in the Western Highlands of Papua New Guinea. The smallholder farms that contributed to this lot are typically small, usually less than a hectare, and coffee crops are grown alongside other sustenance crops. Being so remote, the farms do not always have access to a local wet mill, or even roads, so they pulp, wash and ferment their own coffee, which is then collected via community collection points. Once collected the beans are transported to the mill run by New Guinea Highlands Coffee Exports; a local coffee exporter who are champions of sustainabilty, fair coffee practices and quality control in Papua New Guineas relatively young coffee market.
