This washed lot come from Racafe; a Colombian based coffee exporter specialising in sustainability, education and fair working practices for the farms that contribute to its wet-mills. Just 256 farms from Suarez make up this lot. The region experiences cold temperatures coming from the Cauca river valley which can create difficulties for farmers so the farms are typically small; less than 5 hectares and practice shade growing their coffee plants to improve resilience, and often intercrop alongside plantain, corn and beans to improve soil health. With this washed lot, after wet processing, the pulp is taken to special composting beds and turned into nitrogen rich fertilizer to help improve production for the next harvest.
