Frequently Asked Questions

What types of coffee grinders do you sell?

We stock a range of burr grinders for home and professional use, including electric espresso grinders, filter grinders, and hand grinders. All are chosen for consistency and value at their price point.

What is the best coffee grinder for espresso?

For espresso, you need a burr grinder that can produce a fine, consistent grind with precise stepless or stepped adjustment. A quality burr grinder makes more difference to espresso quality than almost any other variable.

What's the difference between a burr grinder and a blade grinder?

Burr grinders crush beans between two abrasive surfaces, producing a consistent, even grind — essential for good espresso and filter coffee. Blade grinders chop beans unevenly, producing an inconsistent grind that leads to bitter, poorly extracted coffee. We only stock burr grinders.

Do I need a grinder if you can grind my coffee for me?

For the freshest cup, a home grinder is worth it — coffee starts to go stale within minutes of grinding. That said, we grind all our coffee fresh to order at the roastery, so our pre-ground coffee arrives in far better condition than supermarket pre-ground.

What grinder do I need for filter coffee?

For V60, Chemex, or drip filter, you need a grinder that produces a consistent medium-coarse grind. Many entry-level burr grinders do this well. For cafetière, a coarser grind is needed — most good home burr grinders cover this range.

Do you sell hand coffee grinders?

Yes — hand grinders are great for travel, small kitchens, or anyone who enjoys a more hands-on brewing ritual. They also tend to produce an excellent grind quality relative to their price.

Which grinder should I pair with my espresso machine?

As a rule, spend at least as much on your grinder as your machine — the grinder has the biggest impact on shot quality. Email us at hello@thecoffeefactory.co.uk if you'd like a specific recommendation based on your setup.
